It is important for the government to begin a genuine process of dialogue involving local communities and marginalized groups in addressing the impacts of Tourism in the state.  In an age of deliberative democracy, it will be hugely disappointing if the tourism department unilaterally choose to close options for such dialogical engagements.

The web portal has been launched at a critical moment in the history of civil society initiatives in Kerala. Last few years have seen the struggles to democratize tourism options in the state intensifying through increased people’s participation. Kerala tourism has long been criticised for its insensitivity to environment, cultural and aesthetic values, moral codes of local communities and loss of jobs, livelihoods and resources of marginalized groups in the state.
